Police car destroyed in arson attack outside Foreign National Registration Unit in Bristol

Police in Bristol have launched an investigation after an arson attack on one of their patrol cars.

The car was written off with its engine and front end almost entirely burnt out in the blaze, which happened at around 12.30am on October 22.

The patrol car had been parked in front of Avon and Somerset police's Foreign National Registration Unit, which is just off Whiteladies Road in Clifton.

The unit is one of four locations in the Avon and Somerset area where foreign nationals who are required to register with the police can do that - and the only specialised unit in the force area for that purpose.

The unit is open during office hours and was closed at the time.

A police spokesperson said the fire service were alerted to the blaze at around 12.30am

“We were called to reports of a vehicle fire in Kings Parade Mews in Clifton this morning at about 12.30am,” he said.

“The incident is being treated as suspicious and enquiries are continuing. Anyone with information is asked to contact us quoting reference 5219244200,” he added.
