Police called to Tameside cinema - and take a BB gun off a man

A BB gun was seized from a man at a cinema in Tameside.

Police were called to Cineworld on Fold Way, Ashton-under-Lyne, at 5.15pm on Monday.

They seized a BB gun from a man, Greater Manchester Police confirmed.

No arrests have been made.

A GMP spokesman said: "At around 5.15pm on Monday, October 28, police attended a premises on Fold Way, Ashton-under-Lyne and seized a BB gun from a male.

"No arrests have been made.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

The incident came just a day after the cinema was evacuated due to a smoke alarm.

Several fire crews were scrambled to Fold Way shortly after 3pm on Sunday.

Customers said their films were interrupted by a message telling them to leave as there was a 'situation'.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 3pm and three fire engines were sent to the scene.

"There was no fire inside the building but what appeared to be smoke as a result of someone letting off a fire extinguisher."
