Police called to reports of body in pond but find it is a dummy in an Avatar onesie

Police were called out to investigate reports a body was floating in a pond, only to find it was a dummy dressed in a onesie.

Two officers attended the scene off the Congleton Bypass, Cheshire, on Sunday (August 15).

The mannequin, which had long dark hair, was found floating on a lifebuoy and wearing a blue costume from the sci-fi film Avatar, reports the MEN.

Posting about the incident on Twitter, Gawsworth and Chelford Police said: "PCSOs Gillett and Short were called out to what looked like a body in the water, thankfully this time it wasn't real.

"This is a reminder – water is dangerous and don't mess around with the life saving equipment, somebody may need it and it could be you!"

Commenting on the post, one social media user said: "Some idiots about, why would you even do this, obviously out just to call mischief."

Another joked: "This the tragic alternative ending of Avatar that never made the cut."

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "We were called to reports that a lifelike mannequin had been dumped in a small pond near to the Congleton Bypass Macclesfield Road roundabout.

"The caller reported that the item was causing a distraction as it looked like a body.

"Officers attended and removed the mannequin from the pond."
