Police say they were called to investigate a report of a potential bomb being found in a garden in St Ann's.
The force say the suspected military ordnance was found in Redcliffe Road in St Ann’s at around 10pm on Wednesday, May 12.
Police put up a cordon and nearby residents were asked to stay in their homes while The Royal Logistics Corps from the Chilwell Barracks were deployed to examine the find.
They said that it was not a military device and it was not a threat to public safety.
The cordon was then removed at around 11.30pm - police have thanked local residents for their cooperation while the incident was investigated.
Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Karl Thomas of Nottinghamshire Police said: “As with all reports of discovered military ordinance, our number one priority is public safety while ensuring a minimal impact on residents in the area.
“Thankfully, the item found was not deemed to be dangerous and the scene was closed before midnight.
“I would like to thank the Royal Logistic Corps from the Chilwell Barracks for their assistance in this incident as well as the officers and PCSOs who attended the scene.
“I would also like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding while we conducted our investigation.”
