Police called to mass brawl at McDonald's as residents in Blackwood say out of control youths are terrorising the town

A gang of youths assaulted a man outside a McDonald's restaurant in Blackwood as a spate of anti social behaviour hits the town.

Police were called to the fast food chain in Cliff Road at around 6.40pn on Friday after a 21-year-old man from Caerphilly was assaulted.

A photo taken from the incident show a group of young people standing over a man on the floor as McDonald's staff try to calm the situation down.

The man sustained minor injuries to his hands and legs but did not require hospital treatment.

CCTV from the restaurant has been handed over to the police who are trying to identify those involved.

Inspector Aled George, from Gwent Police, said: "We have reviewed footage of the assault near McDonald’s. We have identified a number of people at the scene and are will speak to anyone we can identify and who may be able to assist with our enquiries.

"We are also meeting with representatives from McDonald's and other partners in Blackwood to discuss this matter and other anti-social behaviour incidents, as well as with local schools.

"I’d also like to remind all parents and guardians in the area: please make sure you know where your child is and that they are behaving responsibly."

Blackwood residents have spoken out against the spate of anti social behaviour which included a defibrillator in High Street being smashed and damaged, youths climbing scaffolding and egging people and houses.

Writing on Facebook, Pauline Stephens said: "What is happening to Blackwood? There seem to be so many posts about youngsters causing damage to vehicles, or worse still, this sort of behavior. So sad, town is becoming a no go zone because if their anti social behaviour."

Another resident Michelle Garrard said: "This is disgusting behaviour. As parents, if this was your child please be aware of the all the customers that witnessed this disgraceful behaviour of your children."

McDonald's has been approached for comment.
