Police called to Lidl after 'suspected shoplifters refuse to leave' store

Police have been called to a supermarket in Sherwood after 'two suspected shoplifters have refused to leave'.

Onlookers saw two police cars with their sirens on appear near to the Lidl supermarket in Mansfield Road. They were called by store staff at 12.07pm.

Police were seen at the scene at around 12.30pm helping store staff after two suspected shoplifters were caught in the store.

When they were asked to pay for items, they refused to do so, and a police spokeswoman said they were now refusing to leave the store.

Police have been called to assist shop staff.

A police spokeswoman said: "We went to Lidl because two people started to take things and they have refused to leave. We have gone to assist and police are still at the scene."

It is not yet known if any arrests have been made.
