Police called to large gathering of people in Beeston

Police were called to a large gathering of people who descended on a Beeston beauty spot close to the canal.

Police were called at 5.15pm on Monday, March 15, to reports of up to 30 people who had congregated at the Canal Side.

It is against the Covid-19 guidelines to meet up in groups from different households either indoors or outdoors as the country still remains in the third national lockdown.

Inspector John Lees, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Nottinghamshire Police was called to a report of a gathering in Canal Side in Beeston at around 5.15pm this evening (Monday March 15).

"Officers attended the scene within minutes of the call and engaged with a group of around 25-30 people who quickly dispersed from the area.

"No fixed penalty notices were issued."
