Police called to Hong Kong protest in City Square

Police have been called in to keep the peace on City Square.

Two groups of people have taken to the streets in Leeds and appear to be on opposing sides of the Hong Kong democracy row.

In Hong Kong protests started in June against a proposed law to allow extradition to mainland China but this movement has since transformed into a larger pro-democracy movement.

The protests in Hong Kong have seen increasingly violent clashes between police and protesters.

However, a group of largely student protesters dressed in all black were standing silently saying nothing while campaigning.

While another group of pro Beijing demonstrators held up Chinese flags near the church.

Police have lined both protests to avoid any chance of a clash.
