Police called to home after dog injures man - but find it dead when they arrive

Police were called to a house after a dog injured a man - only to find the animal dead when they arrived.

Officers were called to an address in New Lane in Breightmet, Bolton, at about 1.50pm on Friday (April 15) in response to a report of a man being injured by a dog. During the incident, the dog suffered a fatal injury.

It is understood that the man's injuries were not serious.

He has since been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. A woman has also been arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and dangerous dog offences. The man has been released on bail and the woman released under investigation, say police.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "We were called at around 1.50pm on Friday 15 April to a report of a man being injured by a dog at an address on New Lane, Bolton.

"During the incident, the dog suffered a fatal injury prior to police arrival. A man was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, and a woman was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault and dangerous dog offences.

"The man has since been released on bail and the woman released under investigation. Enquiries are ongoing."
