Police called to Glasgow Ikea after thousands planned to turn up for 'massive game of hide and seek'

It was believed thousands of people were going to turn up for a "massive game of hide and seek".

Police were called to Glasgow Ikea after it was believed thousands of people would descend on the store for a massive game of hide and seek.

Officers from Police Scotland were called to the Braehead store after a Facebook group was set up to plan Sunday's event, the Daily Record reported.

Ikea bosses called police after catching wind of the social media event, which suggested about 3,000 people were going to turn up.

Throughout the afternoon, youths apparently turned up to the store for the game but were turned away by officers.

Word spread that people were being turned away and the event was abandoned as a result.

Police remained on site until about 8pm.

An Ikea spokesman told the Daily Mail: "We need to make sure that people are safe, and that is hard if we do not know where they are."
