Police called to fight outside YMCA near Arnolfini

Police were called to the scene of a fight yesterday (August 5) outside the YMCA near the Arnolfini at 8.30pm.

Officers attended the fight and arrested three men on the spot. One of the men was later de-arrested and a 46-year-old and 47-year-old man remain in police custody today (August 6).

An eyewitness initially got in contact with Bristol Live to describe how they thought a stabbing had occurred at the scene.

They said: "I was walking towards it and a police car whizzed past and pulled up in front. Loads of people were trying to get in and out and people were trying to keep the door closed. A woman walked towards it and was like ‘oh has X stabbed someone?'.

"Then I’m sure I heard someone say something about someone being on the floor and there being blood and then another police car turned up and then another."

Police said this was the only incident recorded in Narrow Quay yesterday evening and they were not called to the scene of any stabbing.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police confirmed they were called to the scene of a fight.

They said: "Police were called at about 8.30pm on Wednesday, August 5, by a witness reporting three men fighting at the entrance to the YMCA in Narrow Quay.

"Officers attended and arrested three men on suspicion of affray.

"One was later de-arrested, while two others aged 46 and 47 remain in police custody at the time of writing.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information which could help the ongoing investigation is asked to call 101 quoting reference 5220175730."
