Police called to Church Road after incident with homeless man

Police seen outside a Bristol cafe and bar today were reportedly responding to a "conflict" involving a homeless man.

A passer-by shared images with Bristol Live shortly after 1pm this afternoon (Friday, July 31), showing two police cars and several officers outside Grounded Redfield.

The cafe and bar is on the corner of Church Road and Chalks Road, close to St George Park, and had a heartwarming response to what happened.

A staff member there told Bristol Live: "We understand that a homeless man had a conflict and the police intervened.

"Our staff welcomed him into Grounded for a sit down and a drink."

Avon and Somerset Police were not able to provide any further details about the nature of the call-out.

The staff member said that the incident was not serious and that it was resolved "very quickly."

Grounded reopened on July 4 following the lockdown, and announced today that it will be taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme throughout August.

The government scheme will allow every person in the country to enjoy half-price food, up to a discount of £10 per person, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout August.

Grounded, which also has sites elsewhere in Bristol and in Wiltshire, will be offering the deal at all of its branches.
