Police called to burglary find large cannabis farm inside worth £100k

Police investigating a burglary report found a cannabis factory in a Cardiff house.

Officers were called to Tarwick Drive, Rumney, on January 17. They had received a report of an "ongoing burglary" and found the property was insecure, said a South Wales Police spokesperson.

Police entered the home and discovered 130 cannabis plants growing in four rooms as well as "a number" of trays of infant cannabis plants. They also found a machete in the house.

Sergeant Holly Price said: "It was concerning that the individuals involved had such a weapon but thankfully that has now been seized and the factory shut down. We are determined to take drugs off the street and disrupt those who choose to get involved in this trade, and we are grateful for the public's support for our work.”

Single cannabis plants are often valued at £840 in criminal trials, even if the plant is immature, according to drug consultancy service Allen Morgan Associates. This would put the total worth of the Class B drugs seized in Rumney at around £109,200.

Police are still trying to identify those involved in the cannabis factory. If you have any information, call police on 101 and quote reference number 2200017459.
