Boris Johnson refuses to comment on report police were called to his home

Boris Johnson, the favorite to become the next U.K. prime minister, refused to comment during a Conservative Party event on a report that police were called to his home, the BBC reported Saturday.

Catch up quick: Neighbors called police early Friday after hearing "screaming, shouting and banging" coming from inside the London home he shares with his partner, Carrie Symonds, per the Guardian.

• Symonds was allegedly heard telling Johnson to "get off me" and "get out of my flat," per the Guardian. Police attended, but the couple assured authorities they were both safe, according to the Guardian.

"At 00:24hrs on Friday, 21 June, police responded to a call from a local resident ... The caller was concerned for the welfare of a female neighbour. There were no offences or concerns apparent to the officers and there was no cause for police action."

The big picture: Conservative Party members must decide in the coming weeks whether to elect Johnson or Jeremy Hunt, May's foreign secretary, as leader.

• Symonds, a former communications director for the Conservative Party, was involved in the start of Johnson's campaign and has been credited with helping revive Johnson's reputation, the Guardian reports.
