Police called to Barrhead stabbing as man found 'covered in blood'

A man has been stabbed in Barrhead a man was spotted 'lying covered in blood'.

Police were called to the Renfrewshire town's Main Street, the A736, at around 11.40pm on Tuesday.

The alarm was raised after reports were received of a 'man found injured in the area'.

One local said blood blanketed the nearby 'pavement and road' while a 'man was lying there covered in blood'.

The resident, who asked to remain anonymous, told our sister title the Paisley Daily Express: “The man was lying there covered in blood.

“There was blood all over the pavement and road.

“It looked like the man had been stabbed ... it looked absolutely horrific.”

An image from the scene shows a cordon placed down near a bus stop on Main Street.

A piece of what appears to be bloodied blue material sits within the cordon while a cop van guards the area.

The scene sits in front of a row of flats and across the road from the town's museum.

Police Scotland confirmed the incident with Glasgow Live on Wednesday afternoon.

Officers said that the injured man was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

His age, the nature of his injuries and current medical condition were not disclosed.

No other injuries have been reported.

Enquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said : “Officers received a report of a man found injured in Main Street, Barrhead at around 11.40pm on Tuesday, May 31.

"The man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Later on Wednesday afternoon police revealed that a man was arrested in connection with 'a serious assault'.

The 36-year-old is expected to appear at court on Saturday.

Officers did not disclose in which court the appearance would take place.

A spokeswoman from the force said: “A 36-year-old man has been arrested in connection with serious assault after a man was found injured in Main Street, Barrhead at around 11.40pm on Tuesday, May 31.

"He is expected to appear at Court on Saturday, June 4."
