Police called over youngsters' garden rampage

A Perth woman has spoken of her frustration at the young people “ruining” her patch in a communal garden.

Trisha Bremner, who lives in a ground-floor flat on Cross Street, has had plants destroyed, pots removed and other garden items damaged by thoughtless youths.

Mrs Bremner sat down to speak to the PA about her concerns and is calling for more community policing.

She said: “It’s a communal garden I have used for years and I’ve not had problems like this before.

“Some kids have been causing trouble in the area.

“They take the pots from my spot in the garden and take them to the back and empty them out.

“They take my compost and dump it round the corner.

“Some of the plants have been removed from the pots and it’s ruining the garden.

“Some of them were also kicking the veranda outside one of my neighbour’s houses.

“I also saw a girl running through the washing line that had my clothes on it.

“It’s become an ongoing thing – this is not acceptable.

“They can not go around trashing stuff.

“A community shouldn’t be having squabbles like this.

“How can we be a community when things like this happens.”

Mrs Bremner added: “More community police are needed I think.

“At the moment nobody seems to be doing anything about this.

“It will not continue to go on as long as I am here. I will shout at them to go home of I see any of them.

“I have spoken to the council about it but I don’t think they know how best to deal with it.

“I am going to be getting in touch with Police Scotland about it.

“Some people here need to wake up and parents need to take responsibility.

“Everybody should clean up behind themselves and act in a sensible manner.

“Just to say ‘I’m sorry’ about it would be fine.”

A spokesperson for Tayside Police division confirmed that they are aware of the issue, which culminated in officers attending Mrs Bremner’s property due to a theft of her garden items on Thursday, July 4.

A spokesperson for Tayside Police division said: “Police Scotland are investigating an alleged theft of items from a garden area in Cross Street, Perth, on Thursday, July 4.

“Officers are following a positive line of enquiry and enquiries are continuing.”
