Police are praising an 11-year-old boy for his marketing skills after they were called to check on the child when he was spotted with a roadside sign reading: “Ice cold beer” in bold letters.
On Tuesday, the Brigham City police department in Utah shared their findings on social media after receiving numerous calls from concerned neighbours regarding the child’s lemonade stand.
Upon investigation, police announced that the boy wasn’t selling liquor at all, but rather root beer.
“This young man, in the area of 600 South 200 East, has a twist on his lemonade stand,” the police department wrote on Facebook. “Yep, he’s selling beer… ROOT BEER, that is.”
If you look closely at the boy’s sign, you can read “root” written in tiny letters above “beer,” a strategy that has reportedly been successful.
“His marketing strategy has resulted in several calls to the BCPD, but apparently it’s paid off as business has been good,” the department wrote.
In photos shared to Facebook, the 11-year-old can be seen posing with his sign, as well as coolers filled with root beer, which he was selling for $1.
In another photo, the young entrepreneur poses with five police officers, who, according to the Brigham City police department, were not responding officers, but rather paying customers.
The police also took the time to encourage others to stop by the child’s stand, writing in a Facebook comment: “He’ll be operating again tomorrow from noon to 4pm.”
The post has since been liked more than 5,000 times by people amused with the marketing technique.
“Brilliant young entrepreneur right there!” one person wrote.
Another commented: “Innovative thinking, keep it up!” while someone else joked that the “fine print will get you every time”.
