Police called out more than 400 times to illegal house parties in north west Glasgow

Police were called to over 400 times to illegal house parties in north west Glasgow between the end of August and the middle of November, new figures have revealed.

Data obtained by BBC News Scotland shows that officers were called to gatherings breaching covid-19 restrictions on 410 occasions between August 28 and November 22.

Taking in Drumchapel, Anniesland, Partick East, Kelvindale, Garscadden, Scotsounhill, Hillhead and Victoria Park, it was the police area with the largest amount of illegal parties in Scotland - compared to 247 call-outs in Edinburgh South East in second place.

And the figures show that police received four times the amount of callouts to Glasgow North West to deal with illegal parties than in Glasgow North or Glasgow East, and three times as many callouts as they did in Glasgow South West and the city centre.

In total, police were alerted to almost 5,000 gatherings in Scotland in the 12 week period, resulting in over 2,000 fixed penalty notices and 279 arrests.

Among the incidents was an illegal party of 10 people at one house in Glasgow where the householder had previously been issued with two fixed penalty notices, while at another party in the city fines were issued to five people - four of whom had been fined before.

Last month Glasgow Live reported that 64 people received fines after police broke up a huge illegal rave attended by over 200 people at a warehouse in the Anderston area.

Officers who attended say they noticed many people were not wearing masks and no physical distancing was in place.
