Police called as sinkhole appears in Nottingham road

Police have closed off a road in Nottingham after a sinkhole appeared.

There is a police presence with two vans parked up in Darnal Close today (Monday, May 31).

Pictures show the hole surrounded by tape to ensure members of the public stay away from it.

Darnal Close is a residential road located near Southglade Park in the city.

Police tape and cones have been used to cordon off the area around the hole.

Inspector Hayley Crawford, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The police presence related to a sinkhole which was reported to us on Rigley Drive, at the junction of Darnal Close, Bulwell, just before 6.45pm today (Sunday 31 May 2021).

“Officers initially attended and contacted the city council before closing off the road and taping off the area due to the risks posed and making local residents aware.

“The matter has now been referred to the council for further investigation.”
