Police called as campaigners block roads in protest against proposed hospital cuts

Protesters marched through Ilkeston campaigning against proposed cuts to the number of beds at a community hospital.

Campaigners are opposing plans put forward by health bosses to reduce the number of beds at Ilkeston Community Hospital, Heanor Road, from 24 to 16.

It comes after the reduction from more than 30 beds the hospital had over the winter period.

On Saturday (August 3), more than 60 people were said to have taken part in the demonstration that blocked several roads.

Protesters chanted "save Ilkeston hospital" and others held banners.

The march has finished and police were spotted at the scene earlier this afternoon.
