Police called and buses diverted after antisocial behaviour during half term

Police have been called to investigate reports of anti-social behaviour in Ely, Cardiff, during half term. Emergency services were called on Tuesday, February 21 at 6.50pm and again at 7.23pm, due to disruption caused to the bus routes.

Officers from the Ely neighbourhood policing team were dispatched to Grand Avenue after a Cardiff Bus faced criminal damage on Tuesday evening, South Wales Police said.

Following the incident, scheduled buses from Cardiff Bus and Adventure Travel were forced to re-route, causing frustration in the local community. Cardiff Bus published a message on their social media informing their passengers of the changes.

South Wales Police told WalesOnline that they are investigating the occurrences as they are reviewing CCTV footage to identify those responsible. Officers are also working with local councillors and other partners to consider what needs to be done to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area.

Local policing inspector, Ben Davies, said: "Anti-social behaviour can have a significant impact on our communities and victims and members of the public are urged to play their part in keeping their communities safe. Such behaviour has a detrimental impact on the wider community and anti-social behaviour or criminality will not be tolerated. I urge members of the community to report any incident of ASB they witness as that information will help us to investigate the cause of the issue and minimise the risk of it happening again.”
