Police called after man ‘stands up without mask on’ on Air France flight at Edinburgh Airport

Police were called to talk to a man at Edinburgh Airport after he failed to wear a mask on a plane which landed there.

The man is understood to have been on an Air France flight from Paris to Edinburgh which landed at around 4pm yesterday (Sunday June 28).

Airline staff were forced to intervene after the man got up from his seat without wearing a mask.

Although he reportedly complied with requests from cabin crew to return to his seat and put his mask back on, they still contacted police.

A tweet claimed the man had 'refused' to wear his mask (Twitter / @JustAVoter100)

The man was met by officers from Police Scotland as he left the aircraft who provided him with advice.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4pm on Sunday, 28 June, 2020 officers were asked to assist airline staff at Edinburgh Airport. They attended, advice was given to a passenger and no arrests were made."

A tweet this morning said: “Air France flight from Paris into Edinburgh yesterday (Sunday), had one passenger who refused to wear his [mask] upon landing. Was met by Police at the Gate.”

Edinburgh Live has been assured the man was compliant and courteous with airline staff and police.

Air France have said passengers flying with them have to wear a mask.

“For the health and safety of all, the wearing of a surgical mask is mandatory from the moment you arrive at the airport and throughout your Air France flight,” says a statement on the airline’s website.

“Surgical masks on their own are not a guarantee against transmission. However, when combined with other personal safety measures, they provide effective protection against the virus.”

Edinburgh Airport has also asked passengers to wear a mask, a statement on their website said: “We would encourage people to wear coverings upon arrival at the airport but we will be placing masks in vending machines for those who do not have one.”
