Passersby spotted a number of emergency services could be seen at the Wavertree Road entrance to the park, close to the retail park.

It is understood that a section of the park was also cordoned off while officers responded to the call.

A bystander described seeing an ambulance attending the scene and officers speaking to witnesses .

A brief statement shared with the ECHO by Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that emergency services were called to Botanic Road, Liverpool this afternoon following the discovery of a man's body.

"At around 12:25pm, a call was received of a man being found in the area. Police and NWAS attended where the man was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man, notify his next of kin, and establish the cause of his death, which are not believed to be suspicious at this stage."
