Police bust huge rave in disused Newham shop as organiser faces £10k fine

Police busted an illegal rave at a disused shop in east London and slapped the the organiser with a £10k fine.

Officers were tipped off that a large group was flouting Covid laws at an unlicensed music event in a vacant shop in Newham.

The police closed down the event, in Green Street, at 3am on Sunday.

That was four hours after the rave was reported.

A video posted online shows dozens of officers attempting to gain entry to the building.

They dispersed the crowd and hit the issued the organiser with a fixed penalty notice.

A police statement said: “Despite the current easing of lockdown restrictions, we remain in a pandemic and this type of large gathering remains prohibited. Not only were those present taking unnecessary risks, they were also causing significant disruption to the local area.

“The behaviour of a minority will not be tolerated and we will continue to do whatever we can to keep our communities safe.”
