Chaos erupted when SEVEN police officers burst into a bank and tackled a man to the ground, it has been claimed.
Police were called to the Royal Bank of Scotland in Ayr’s Sandgate on Friday afternoon.
At around 2pm they raced to the scene after reports of a commotion inside the bank.
It is believed that a 31-year-old man lost it after an argument in the queue turned aggressive.
As tempers flared staff phoned the police – but when they arrived they were forced to call for back-up when the man resisted arrest.
An eyewitness said: “It was a scary scene. A man who appeared to be tagged started kicking off, it all started as a gripe with someone over a space in the queue. He initially left but then returned looking angrier than ever and when police arrived he refused arrest.
“Then out of nowhere seven police officers burst in and tackled him to the ground.”
Another shopper added: “It was terrifying. There was a huge stramash inside the bank.
“People are saying that a man inside the bank went a bit mental and it took about seven police officers to calm him down.
“It’s not something you expect to see on a Friday afternoon.”
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers in Ayr responded to reports of a disturbance inside the Royal Bank of Scotland at around 2pm on Friday, November 22. A 31-year-old man was arrested and charged.
“He was due to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday.”
