Police break up 'large group of youths' who were ignoring lockdown rules

Police have been forced to break up a large group of young people who were caught breaking lockdown rules.

The youths were gathered around Eagley Cricket Club, in Bromley Cross, Bolton, yesterday evening, causing concern among residents living nearby.

Several people ran as the police arrived but a number of others were arrested at the scene.

In a post on Facebook, an officer from GMP's Bolton North team said people living in the area should expect to see a larger police presence in the coming days.

He said: "Officers from the Bolton North Neighbourhood Team have responded to a report of a large group of youths causing anti-social behaviour, drinking and taking drugs at Eagley Sports Complex.

"These youths were in breach of COVID-19 legislation and government guidance which at this time is clearly unacceptable.

"A number of the group dispersed on our arrival and others were detained, searched under the misuse of drugs act and further action will be taken with the support of our partners and Bolton Council's anti-social behaviour team.

"We will be stepping up patrols in the locality in the coming days to tackle this issue."

Anyone with information or concerns about issues in the area is asked to contact police on the 101.

Alternatively, use the live chat feature on the GMP website, www.gmp.police.uk.
