Police break up large crowd ignoring Covid-19 rules as they watch brass band play

Police stepped in to break up a large crowd of people gathered to watch a brass brand playing on the street, while brazenly ignoring local lockdown rules.

Around 50 people were in the centre of Moseley village, in South Birmingham, dancing along to the band on Saturday night after the pubs closed.

The event was stopped by police because it was in breach of the new Covid restrictions in Birmingham, BirminghamLive reports.

It was one of more than 20 gatherings they broke up on Saturday night alone as they staged a crackdown on Covid flouters.

A local man passing through Moseley at around 10pm on Saturday filmed the scene on his mobile phone.

He told BirminghamLive : "Driving through my local neighbourhood of Moseley, this is absolutely shocking.

"This was in Moseley village opposite the Bulls Head by the black cab stand around 10pm.

"There were around 40 to 50 people gathered."

West Midlands Police said officers took action against the group.

They said: "In Moseley village there’s been a bit of a gathering on the green featuring an impromptu performance from a band featuring someone on the trumpet.

"We’ve had a word and people are making their way home now. All very friendly."
