Police break up illegal gender reveal party 'with various households attending'

A gender reveal party and a gathering in a garden shed converted into a bar were among the weekend events police were forced to break up as they breached Covid-19 regulations.

Police in Swansea, Wales, issued a total of nine fixed penalty notices this afternoon after they were called to a gender reveal party in Townhill attended by a number of different households.

South Wales Police Swansea took to Twitter to slam the "irresponsible" behaviour and said: "Officers have issued nine fixed penalty notices this afternoon in Townhill after they got called to a gender reveal party with various households attending.

"This is not only unacceptable but irresponsible."

The force later issued another three notices after a group of people gathered at a house for a child's birthday party in Penlan.

"Covid regulations still apply to you even if you are family members", officers added in their latest tweet.

Four penalty notices were issued earlier in the day to a group of people who had gathered at a property in the Mount Pleasant area of the city to watch a football match.

That while eight people were fined on Saturday after they

were caught meeting at a shed converted into a bar at an address in Sketty while 10 people from Llanelli, Swansea and Port Talbot had made the journey to Resolven to ride off-road bikes.

South Wales Police have been taking a staunch stand when it comes to coronavirus lockdown breaches and said they are "committed to enforcing where blatant and flagrant breaches occur.”

Police across the UK have been clamping down on those who try to skirt Covid-19 regulations aimed at curtailing the spread of coronavirus as death numbers soared to record levels earlier this week.

A couple in Merseyside who were engaging in "amorous behaviour" at Crosby Marina, along with someone driving in an "anti-social" manner trying to get "sexual services" were among those fined by police.

Merseyside Police said: "A couple have been fined for engaging in amorous behaviour at Crosby Marina. Not a reasonable excuse under the Covid regulations."

Officers from the force added: "Driving your car in an antisocial manner after having just been observed trying to obtain sexual services has earned one person a S.59 warning and a COVID fine. Definitely not an essential journey."
