Police break up huge lockdown house party in Meanwood

Police were forced to break up a huge lockdown house party in Leeds during the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.

West Yorkshire Police attended a property in Beckhill Avenue today (Monday, May 25) after the reports of a house party were made by worried neighbours.

They remained in the area as people who had attended the gathering were "dispersed".

The force has asked residents to report breaches of the coronavirus lockdown rules which have been put together by the government.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers attended on Beckhill Avenue, Leeds in the early hours of Monday morning ( 25/5) to a report of a house party taking place.

“Police spoke with persons present and retained a presence in the area as those attending dispersed.”

Members of the public have been asked to stay at home, where possible, to stop the spread of the virus.

Additional powers have been given to the police to enforce these rules.
