Hundreds of people could face steep penalties for breaching NSW's strict coronavirus social distancing restrictions, after police broke up a large party in Jindabyne on Friday night.
Officers from the Monaro Police District were called to bushland about two kilometres from Lake Jindabyne about 11pm on Friday after reports of a large party.
They found between 150 and 200 people gathered for a "dance party", with a large bonfire, lighting and amplified music set up.

Attendees allegedly ran into the bush when they saw police. Police shut down the party and took details from those who were left behind.
A NSW Police spokesperson said investigations were continuing, with further action likely under the Public Health Orders.
Under current coronavirus restrictions in NSW, no more than 20 people are allowed to gather outside in a public place.
People breaking the rules can receive an on-the-spot fine of $1000. The court can also issue fines of up to $11,000 or impose six months' imprisonment.
