Police 'boys club' accused of bullying female colleagues in sexism row

A group of male officers are being investigated by the police watchdog over allegations of sexist bullying of female colleagues.

It’s understood at least five men, nicknamed “the boys club”, have been accused of a string of complaints by workers at Forres police station in Moray.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) has confirmed they are investigating allegations of “potential criminality” against officers.

The Record understands none of the officers accused have been suspended or put on restricted duties and are still working full-time.

The inquiry was triggered after one female felt her complaint was not being properly investigated by Police Scotland and asked the Crown Office’s Criminal Allegation Against the Police Division what was happening with her case.

When she was told they were not aware of it, the woman went to PIRC, who launched an investigation in February this year.

Some of the allegations stretch back to 2017 and also include complaints from male officers alleging homophobia and bullying.

A source said: “The female cop felt she was being stalled by Police Scotland so took it further.

“PIRC became involved and sent up five investigators and from that, other people came forward with various allegations.”

PIRC and Police Scotland said they could not comment on a live inquiry.
