Police block off M57 after car and lorry crash

Police have blocked off the M57 in both directions following a serious crash between a lorry and car.

Merseyside Police were called to the M57 between junction six (Kirkby) and seven (Switch Island) following a serious crash between a lorry and a car. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was also called to the scene along with the North West Motorway Policing Group.

They closed the carriageway in both directions while emergency services deal with the incident. Police were unable to confirm if anybody was injured in the incident, but an ambulance was seen leaving the M57 just after 11.30pm on Friday, February 3.

Police say they expect the road to be closed for a "period of time" and National Highways have put a diversion in place. Investigations into the crash are underway and police are asking motorists to avoid the area.

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm emergency services are this evening, Friday 3rd February, at the scene of a road traffic collision near Kirkby. Officers were called at 9.15pm to reports of a collision between a car and a HGV close to junction 6 of the M57.

"Officers from the North West Motorway Policing Group (NWMPG) are currently at the scene and there are road closures in the local area. An investigation is currently underway and motorists are advised to avoid the area while the incident is being dealt with.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information is asked to contact our Matrix Serious Collision Investigation Unit on (0151) 777 5747, email SCIU@merseyside.police.uk, or DM @MerPolCC on Twitter quoting reference log 1100 of 3rd February."

  • From the M57 J7 island, join the A5036 southbound
  • At the A5036/Park Lane junction, turn left on to Park Lane
  • At the junction with the A59, turn left on to the A59
