Police believe tragic River Clyde death man John Connelly may have been 'injured in incident'

Cops believe a man found dead in Glasgow last month may have been injured before his death.

John Connelly, 28, was recovered from the water at Speirs Wharf on Monday, July 22.

Officers have established that John, from the Milton area, was in the underpass at Garscube Road leading to Speirs Wharf in the Cowcaddens area around 10.20pm where he was seen on CCTV the week earlier.

Detective Inspector John Morrison said: “It’s important we establish exactly what happened to John before his death.

"He was socialising in the city centre between the hours of 8pm and 10pm.

"We know that he was in the underpass at Garscube Road and we believe this is where the incident occurred resulting in him being injured."

On the evening prior to his death, John was spotted on Buchanan Street , Sauchiehall Street and West Nile Street , before stopping outside a property in Renfrew Street, where he is then seen walking off along Dundasvale Court.

Inspector Morrison added: "I am appealing to anyone who saw John that night to contact us.

"You may not realise that what you saw or know is significant but let us be the judge of that.

"Your information could be vital in helping us piece together exactly what happened to John.

He continued: “This area of Garscube Road at Speirs Wharf is popular with the community, it is used by runners, dog walkers and skateboarders and I’m appealing to anyone who uses this route to think back and consider if they saw anything."

Anyone with information is asked to call CID officers at Maryhill Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 3452 of 22 July 2019.
