Police believe man wanted for sex attack seven years ago is back in the country after fleeing abroad

A man wanted in connection with a sex attack seven years ago is thought to be back in England after going abroad. Now police in Cheshire have issued a new appeal to trace the suspect who is wanted after an incident in Handforth.

Officers are hunting for Chikondi Mwale, 45, in connection with what they describe as a "serious sexual assault on a woman". They have vowed not to give up the search, despite the incident happening seven years ago.

In a statement, Cheshire Constabulary said: "Chikondi Mwale, 45, is wanted in connection with a sexual offence which occurred in May 2015 in Handforth. Mwale is black, around 5’9” tall, of heavy build, with black spiked hair and brown eyes. Extensive enquiries to locate Mwale have been underway since the incident and it is now believed he has recently travelled to London."

Detective Constable Tom Towe said: “We understand that the public will have concerns regarding the length of time that has passed since this incident occurred however this does not mean we haven’t been working on this case and to locate Mwale. We have followed several enquiries over the years which revealed to us that Mwale had left the country.

“However, after recent developments, we now believe that Mwale has recently returned to the UK and we have several enquiries underway to locate him.”

Anyone with information in relation to Mwale’s whereabouts, or Mwale himself, is urged to contact Cheshire Police on 101 or via https://www.cheshire.police.uk/police-forces/cheshire-constabulary/areas/cheshire/about-us/about-us/provide-more-information-about-an-appeal/ quoting 659-20171129.
