Police at Manchester Arndale as eager shoppers race to join queue for reopening shops - watch

This is the moment dozens of eager shoppers raced to join a queue to get into the Arndale centre on the day non-essential shops reopen.

The clip shows a group of people gathered outside the Market Street entrance at around 7am this morning (Monday).

A security guard then appears to point them in another direction and the group rush off to join the queue.

Police officers were also spotted assisting with the queues.

The shopping centre reopens at 8am today as lockdown restrictions ease across England.

As well as non-essential shops, pub beer gardens, gyms and barbers will also reopen to the public.

Pictures taken outside the Arndale shopping centre this morning show dozens of shoppers waiting to get inside.

Eager shoppers also showed up bright and early to the Trafford Centre this morning.

Ciara Sutcliffe, 21, from Middleton, was waiting outside Primark from 6.45am.

“It makes you feel like things are finally getting back to normal", she told the M.E.N .

Fellow Primark shopper Megan Bell, 21, of Middleton, added: “Everyone has been stuck indoors at home for so long, this is a chance to get out. I was expecting bigger queues actually.

"There’s a gingham two-set that’s been going viral on Tik Tok that I’m after.

"Hope they have it!”
