Police at Leonardo Hotel in Edinburgh after chemical leak and two people injured

Police and fire services rushed to Leonardo Hotel in Edinburgh's Clermiston Road this evening amid fears of a chemical leak.

The public were advised to avoid the area while investigations took place.

The chemical leak involves chlorine and the hotel was evacuated.

Earlier Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that the hotel was evacuated due to a chlorine leak in the plant room.

Two people were injured as a result of the leak.

At 8.30pm, Police confirmed that hotel staff and guests were allowed back inside.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Police in Edinburgh can confirm that the multi agency response to the incident in Clermiston Road has concluded.

"Emergency services have established this was a minor chlorine leak from the swimming pool and while this area remains temporarily out of use to the public, the hotel guests and staff have been allowed back inside.

"Seven people were assessed by ambulance staff at the scene and required no additional assistance. A further two people were taken to hospital as a precaution.

"The police, fire and ambulance staff in attendance have now stood down and the general public are thanked for their patience and cooperation while we responded to this incident."
