Police investigating after critically injured man found on Melbourne road

Emergency services were called to the scene about 10:00pm.

Police are investigating after a man was found with a life-threatening injury in the middle of the road in Melbourne's outer east last night.

The man was found lying on Morris Road in Upwey shortly before 10:00pm on Sunday night.

He was taken to hospital where it was found he had a life-threatening head injury.

Victoria Police earlier appealed for the public's help in identifying the man, who was believed to be in his 30s or 40s.

Investigators released images of the grey hoodie and white shoes he was wearing when he was found.

Police said at the early stage of the investigation, it was not believed he was struck by a car or assaulted.

About 1:30pm on Monday, police confirmed they had identified the man.

"At this stage enquiries are still being made into what has occurred however it is believed no criminality was involved," a police spokeswoman said.
