Police arrest teenager who fled custody in Adelaide CBD

The incident sparked a police search for the teenager.

A teenager has been arrested after escaping police custody in Adelaide's CBD this morning.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested for breaching bail at Oaklands Park, south-west of Adelaide, earlier on Thursday morning.

Police allege that when the police car he was in stopped in Wright Street in Adelaide's CBD, he jumped out and ran.

As officers stopped to chase the escapee, the police car rolled forward, and was involved in a minor collision with another car.

No one was injured, and only minor damage was caused to both vehicles.

Extra police patrols were called in to help find the boy and located him shortly after hiding under a car in Byron Place, near Grote Street.

A witness — who did not want to be named — said police swarmed Byron Place and blocked off the street for about 20 minutes.

He said there was a lot of "commotion" on the street.

"There were a few people shouting, there was a few cops … on their laptops like on the other end of the street as well," he said.

"I think they were just trying to figure out where he was really, all trying to yell at each other they didn't know where he went."

The teenager will be charged with escaping custody and will appear in the Adelaide Youth Court later today.
