Police arrest teenager carrying an axe in Bolton

A teenager has been arrested after being found carrying an axe in Bolton.

Officers on patrol in the town were stopped by a member of the public who reported a 'suspicious male' to them at about 10.10pm on Monday (January 4).

After conducting a search of the area, police located an 18-year-old man matching the description on Back Bury Road East, in the Tonge Fold area.

He was stopped and searched and found to be in possession a large axe.

The man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon.

He remains in police custody for questioning.

Officers have since shared the news of the arrest on the GMP Bolton North Facebook page.
