Police arrest teen after elderly woman wakes to find male in bedroom of Belfast home

A teenager has been arrested after a woman in her 80s was awoken by a male in her bedroom.

The incident was reported at a home on Lawnmount Street, East Belfast, in the early hours of this morning.

Cash, medication and jewellery were allegedly stolen from the property.

A man arrested by police a short distance away.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "An 18-year-old man has been arrested following a burglary at the home of a woman in her 80s on Lawnmount Street in Belfast early this morning, Wednesday 10 June.

"The householder was awoken by a male in her bedroom at around 5am. He demanded money however the victim refused and the male left. It was subsequently discovered that cash, medication and jewellery had been taken.

"Responding officers located a suspect a short distance away and he remains in custody at present.

"Anyone with any information about this incident or who may be able to help with our investigation, is asked to call us on the non-emergency number 101, or submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via  http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/
