Merseyside Road Police branded a motorist "selfish" after he recklessly ignored a police M57 closure and drove down the wrong way of the motorway to escape gridlocked traffic.
Motorway police closed the M57 both ways following concerns for the safety of a person just after 10pm on Saturday (August 21).
However, traffic police were alarmed to see the driver of the black BMW (pictured) had turned back to avoid the traffic queue and headed down the wrong way.
Merseyside Road Police said: "Whilst patrols had several closures on the M57 due to a concern for safety, one selfish driver couldn’t be bothered waiting so drove the wrong way down the M57 where he drove straight to a closure and an officer."
