Victorian police have arrested a man in relation to the murder of Masa Vukotic, 17, who was fatally stabbed while walking in a park nearby her home in Doncaster in Melbourne’s east about 7pm on Tuesday.

The man handed himself in to police in Sunshine, about 30km west of where Vukotic was killed, Detective Inspector Mick Hughes told reporters on Thursday.

“The public needs to be confident there are no other suspects we’re looking for,” Hughes said.

“We had teams out in the general [Sunshine] area this morning because we identified early this morning we had a person of interest in the western suburbs. That subsequently led to him giving himself up.”

“He’s been cautioned and we have to be mindful of his rights,” Hughes said. “If as a subject of being interviewed today he’s charged, we’ll release his name and all that information will come out from there.”

The man handed himself in after CCTV footage was released on Wednesday showing a man police wanted to question.
