Police arrest man on a First bus in Bristol

A man has been arrested after reports a woman was pushed against the door of a Bristol First Bus service.

The video footage, which was captured by Bristol 24/7, shows police officers approach the bus near The Centre, step onto the vehicle and then lead the arrested man away.

The footage was tweeted by Martin Booth, who wrote: "Police have just stopped a bus on the centre and arrested a passenger who was sitting on the top deck."

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: “Officers arrested a man from a bus on Anchor Road this morning on suspicion of common assault.

“It followed a report at 9.25am that a woman had been forcibly pushed against the bus door.

“The man remains in police custody and enquiries are ongoing.”

Ian Coyle, Operations Director for First West of England in Bristol, said:

“We can confirm there was an incident on a number 2 service this morning and that police have arrested a man following a complaint of assault. We are co-operating fully with the police in their investigations.”
