A 27-year-old man from Slough has been arrested on suspicion of a terrorism offence linked to the conflict in Syria.
Officers from the south-east counter terrorism unit detained the man under section 17 of the Terrorism Act on suspicion of financing terrorist acts, Thames Valley police said.
Supt Simon Bowden, area commander for Slough, said: “The arrest was planned and was not made in response to any immediate threat to public safety in Slough. We will continue to work with our partners and community in the interests of public safety and I would ask that we all continue to discourage anyone from attempting to travel to Syria or other areas of conflict.”
Last week police arrested four men in and around London over an alleged terrorist plot. They included a man who had been previously suspected of wanting to travel to Syria to team up with extremists.
Fear of an attack by people with connections to Syria or Iraq led to the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre recommending raising the terrorist threat level to severe, its second highest level.
Last month 14 people were arrested on terrorism-related offences in one week.
