Police arrest man in Castle Park

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of a drug offence in Castle Park.

Two officers were pictured detaining a man by the wall of St Peter's Church at 12.50pm today (December 23).

An Avon and Somerset police spokesman said officers were called to the Bristol city centre park at 12.30pm, following reports of a man acting suspiciously.

They arrested a man in his 20s under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Police seized two small bags of what they believe to be cannabis from the man.

The suspect remains in police custody.

The nature of the suspected offence is not yet clear – the Misuse of Drugs Act covers possession, supply, manufacture, import and export of controlled drugs.

Two police cars were parked on nearby Bridge Street at the time of arrest.
