Police have arrested a man for allegedly breaching COVID-19 quarantine rules at a beach in Denmark on Western Australia's south coast.

A witness told the ABC that police wearing masks arrested the man at Prawn Rock Channel at Ocean Beach around 3pm on Thursday.

Neither WA Health nor police would reveal why the man was supposed to be in self-isolation and whether he was a close contact of a positive COVID-19 case.

Denmark Police Sergeant Matt Hartfield said police responded after receiving notification from authorities in Perth.

"We responded to an incident, notified by Perth, of someone failing to isolate or quarantine as required," he said.

It comes as WA announces strict new proof of vaccination requirements.

West Australians will need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to access a wide range of venues and events from January 31, Premier Mark McGowan has announced.
