Police arrest man after teenager is stabbed in random attack in Headingley

A man has now been arrested after a student was stabbed in Headingley during a unprovoked random attack.

The 19-year-old victim was walking home from the shops and listening to music when a man ran up behind him and stabbed him on St Michael’s Lane.

West Yorkshire Police say the stabbing happened near Gate D of Headingley Stadium at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, May 19 and "it appears to have been a completely unprovoked random attack".

In the early hours of the morning on Thursday, May 21 officers investigating the stabbing arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

A police spokesman said: "He remains in custody and enquiries are ongoing."

Shortly after the stabbing, police released CCTV of the suspect and urged anyone who recognises him to come forward.
