Local police in Orange County, Calif., arrested a 26-year-old Caucasian man on Monday on suspicion of threatening a Japanese American woman, who will represent the United States in karate at this summer's Tokyo Olympics.

Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime motivated by racial discrimination after the accused said his hatred for Asians prompted him to yell at 28-year-old Sakura Kokumai.

According to reports, the man threatened Kokumai, who was training in a park on April 1, by saying, "Go home, stupid," and so on. She had posted a video of the incident on social media, which drew a lot of attention.

The man, who had also been arrested on suspicion of assaulting an elderly Korean-American couple at night in the same park on April 18, later admitted to the accusations made against him.
