Police arrest man, 31, after shocking discovery inside kids' princess books

A man has been arrested after more than £465,000 worth of cocaine was found hidden inside a children's princess books.

The shocking discovery was made after the picture novels were intercepted by Border Force in Australia and x-rayed.

Tests confirmed the white substance was cocaine with a total weight of 1.72kg.

A 31-year-old man, who was arrested on Friday, will appear in court this week facing drug importation charges.

Police say that between Wednesday May, 1 and Saturday, May 4, two separate consignments containing children’s books arrived into Sydney from Portugal.

They were x-rayed and inspected by officers at the International Mail Gateway in Sydney, where presumptive testing returned positive results for cocaine.

The cocaine has an estimated potential street value of up to $645,000, according to police.

The matter was referred to New South Wales Police Force and detectives from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

Shortly after the arrest, detectives, searched a home on Old South Head Road, Vaucluse.

During the search, police allegedly located and seized electronic items and documents, as well as a small amount of cannabis.

The man was taken to Waverley Police Station and charged with import commercial quantity of border-controlled drug and issued with two cannabis cautions.

He appeared at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday, where he was formally refused bail to appear at Central Local Court.
