In a statement GMP Salford said: "Even off duty our officers are proactive at ensuring offenders are brought to justice. On November 15 a male had been reported to be drunk making numerous threats to members of the community going about their daily business.
"This male had found himself in Home Bargains, Boots and Greggs of the Salford Shopping Precinct before he was spotted by an off-duty officer. The male began to be racially abusive towards security staff before he began to push and punch at the security guards whilst they were carrying out their duties.
"Our off-duty officer ensured that the offender was followed where other officers from the Northeast Neighbourhood Team responded in a police vehicle. Once the offender has sobered up he will be sitting in an interview room providing an account relating to his actions."
